Farming Hack: Homemade Pesticide
What’s up urban farming friends!! It’s Rachel here with a quick tip on how to keep your plants thriving, while making sure the produce you’ll enjoy later on is 100% safe! As I’m sure many of you know, the traditional pesticides used to repel pests, like insects or fungi, are chock full of harmful chemicals. These are super hard to get off the surface of your produce, and can even get into the flesh of fruits and veggies.
That being said, disease can plague even the most carefully cared for plants. Below are a couple examples of leaves that are battling fungus:
At the Association we use our own natural, safe, and easy to make pesticide. Just follow this ratio and a simple spray-jug:
1 tablespoon baking soda
2 tablespoons neem oil
3 liters of water
That’s it. Just mix it all together and spray on any leaves needing a little more love! This mixture is totally safe to consume, while being a fraction of the price of the store bought alternatives.
