How did I, a recent college graduate from the United States, end up all the way in Tel Aviv? The answer is simple: urban farming. After graduating from Ohio University with a Bachelor's degree in Health Service Administration, I was looking for an opportunity to do something totally different for the summer before making my way into the real world. I came across “Israel Experience”, an organization who pairs young adults from the U.S. with internships with companies all across Israel. Having seen the country briefly three years ago during a trip with Taglit, I jumped on the opportunity to spend two full months living in Tel Aviv.
Growing up in Ohio, I would spend time every summer developing a garden with my Dad, but I never considered turning the hobby into a full time job. I’ve already been inspired by the passion driving all the people who keep The Association of Urban Farming thriving. The goals of this non profit begins with bringing high quality food at an affordable price, and succeeds in engaging and inspiring the community as it goes. I couldn’t be more thrilled to be spending my summer exploring this lively country as well as diving into the world of urban farming. Follow along with this blog and join me as I go! ❀
